AESTHETICS OF MINI SOCIETIES

Hong Kong, 2017

The series ‘Aesthetics of Mini Societies' finds contradictions through education institutions’ portrayal of themselves and their architectural designs, as an increased number of student suicide is sweeping Hong Kong. Presenting either a macro, distant view of the secondary schools, or a close-up of common elements found in these institutions, the photographer examines the contrast between thinking and views of educators, students and the public in Hong Kong. These elements include but not limited to chains, gates, cords, signs, fences, and colorful banners. With the photos landing themselves to a careful reading of the schools from the outside, the photographer hopes to exhibit the institutions with their inherent attitudes and rules— their suppression of free will.
